Website, hosting, and domain are in the heart of our online presence.
While we plan our online presence, we need to pay sufficient attention to one fundamental aspect. Choosing the hosting provider and the domain name are key factors to the success of our SEO strategy. To give us advice on what should be considered when making this choice, I turned to Lyubomir Rusanov and Metodi Drenovski, the founders of the leading hosting company in Bulgaria SuperHosting.BG.
Hosting from an SEO point of view
By choosing a reliable hosting provider, we can focus on our business knowing that our site is in good hands. This way, we can save some time in certain optimizations. Because a good hosting provider offers a high level of security, easy management of the hosting account, tools that accelerate the website’s speed, a good customer support team that is always there to help and many more benefits.
In general, the two main aspects of choosing a hosting company from an SEO point of view are Security and Website Speed.
Security:
As Metodi said, “It is important for the hosting company to pay sufficient care and attention to keep its infrastructure clean and have a high level of security.” In other words, If the hosting company does not pay enough care in this regard. If the websites are not sufficiently secured, and there are compromised ones. There is a risk that Google will lower the trust in all of the websites hosted with this company.
The security level and the responsibility of a hosting company to protect its infrastructure and clients’ websites are of great importance in terms of SEO.

Speed:
When a website loads faster, Google “likes” it more! 🙂 So what does the hosting have to do with the other important aspect — the website speed? Similarly to security, the process here is mutual. Measures and optimizations are required from both the hosting company and the website owner for achieving a better result. However, how does the hosting company contribute to a faster website? The answer is: Firstly, a good hosting company offers good infrastructure. Also, The Time to First Byte (TTFB) is optimized and low. The company offers additional tools to improve website speed, such as caching. In conclusion, all of those mean that the hosting takes good care of the speed of our website.
Domain name from an SEO point of view
A domain (website name) is the way we are known across the web. It is recommended that it reflects our brand in the best possible way. Therefore, you need to be very careful when choosing a domain, taking into account your overall online strategy. One of the aspects that is important to keep in mind from an SEO perspective is:
It is a good practice the domain extension to be related to the country where your main customers are located.
Lyubomir Rusanov, CEO of SuperHosting.BG
For example .bg for Bulgaria, .co.uk for the UK, .de for Germany, etc.
SSL certificate and HTTPS

While speaking about hosting and domain from SEO point of view, we should also pay some attention to the SSL certificate. To load a website under a secure HTTPS connection and avoid the message “This site is not secure” in browsers, we need to have an SSL certificate. There are free and paid SSL certificates. Both solutions have their advantages. However, the disadvantage of the free ones is that it is a newer technology and may not work completely correctly in certain cases.
It is important when installing an SSL certificate that we check if all resources on the website (images, files, etc.) load under https. To see if they are properly redirected so that no duplicate content is received. In other words to avoid Google indexing our website with SSL and without SSL.
My Choice of Hosting and Domain – SEO Considerations
To illustrate, I will give an example with my website.
I have chosen SuperHosting.BG as a hosting provider. Not because I used to work there, or because I’m befriended with the team, but because it works the best for me!
In terms of security
I feel calm knowing they protect my website in their security system. In addition, I can easily increase my website’s security with WordPress Manager by SuperHosting > Security Checks. Of course, as the creator and owner of the website, I am also responsible, thus I do not set a password “password123″ for the administration, I do not install questionable plugins, etc.
In terms of speed
The infrastructure is reliable, my website is located on high speed ALL SSDs. Furthermore, they support HTTP/2, support caching systems, which they made SuperEasy to activate — Memcached and Redis, support the latest version of PHP and can be activated with a single click. In addition, they even developed their own caching module that works on a web server level and helps my site fly — SuperCache.
So with this and after I also did some optimizations, I achieved the following results:
Google PageSpeed Insights Desktop Report:
08/26/2019
Google PageSpeed Insights Mobile Report:
08/26/2019
GTmetrix Report:

For the domain, I chose the .com extension because I planned to have an international website, with useful resources that can reach every corner of the world.
And a bonus for the finale!
You can take advantage of a 10% discount when purchasing from SuperHosting a new shared hosting plan, and a domain name with extension — .com, .net, .org, .info, .biz or .eu for a period of 12 months. All you need is to enter promo code “superdido” (without the quotation marks) at the last step of your order. 😉 They gave me this code as a friend because they are very cool. 🙂
